Outback Areodrone

The growing drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), sector presented significant opportunities for remote and rural communities like Central West Queensland. For many of our key industries drones have a very real and practical application.

There are also opportunities for businesses to undertake drone piloting, drone training facilities and hosting drone testing for Beyond Visual Line of Sight.

Under the Queensland Government’s APRIP (2017-2021) RAPAD played a key role in delivering opportunities in drones and technology, to help grow local capacity, attract investment and boost our region’s business potential.

Project’s value to CWQ

RAPAD showcased the region to local, national and international drone companies and enthusiasts in two professional symposiums (2018, 2019) held in Barcaldine.

The organisations capitalised on networks made at the events and continued building relationships with commercial developers both in Australia and overseas.

Key staff from the RAPAD region travelled to drone events including an expo in Japan to learn about industry best practice and promote the region as an ideal location for testing and development work.

RAPAD also created an online guide for accessing the regions best unmanned aerial vehicle sites and actively supported businesses and individuals keen to come to the region with a concierge service.
